I got this great creativity “shot in the arm” from Whitney Ferré this morning. The inspiring force behind Creatively Fit posted her first audio blog (listen below) and it was exactly what I needed.
When you hear the “left brain” description, you’ll know what makes me a successful graphic designer. But unfortunately, those same valuable skills can fight against my ability to just “play” with art and creativity. I’m always trying to “produce” something when I paint or draw, and then I end up hating whatever comes out. “This sucks, I would never want anyone to see this!”
In about ten minutes, Whitney virtually slapped me upside the head and reminded me that it’s okay to just put something down on paper, even if its final destination is the waste paper basket.
Thanks Whitney!

Wise, wise words. I just wrote about “Shitty First Drafts.” Sometimes, you just need to get something, anything done, so you can get to final product!
